The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport formerly known as the Sahar International Airport and Santacruz Domestic Airport is in Mumbai, India. The airport is a public sector venture and is operated by the Mumbai International Airport Limited. The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport of Mumbai is the biggest aviation hub of India for International and Domestic flights. The airport is spread over 1450 acres of land and is located in the suburbs of Santacruz and Sahar. The renaming of the airport was done recently in honor of the 17th century Maratha Emperor, Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhonsle.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport of Mumbai is the busiest airport in India and South-East Asia. The Official Airline Guide (OAG) has ranked the Mumbai Delhi route as the 7th busiest domestic route in the world averaging a daily traffic

of more than 50 flights in each direction. There are more than 46 international and a host of domestic operators working at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport consists of the International terminal (Terminal 2) and the Domestic Terminal (Terminal 1). The two cross runways are named 09/27 and 14/32. The mail 09/27 runway is 3,489 m long while the 14/32 runway is 2,925 m and runs between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

There have been quite a few changes made since the construction of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) is a consortium formed by the GVK and the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) appointed to modernize and develop the facilities in the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. There have been many improvements like additional check-in counters, cleaner toilets, improved housekeeping services, better signage, more food and beverages options, better curbside management and smoother traffic flow. MIAL is in the process of deploying a centralized data system, which will provide information about domestic as well as international flights to all display devices of both the terminals.
